DIY Paper Gift Boxes

The holiday season is upon us, so I just have to share with you this simple and excellent DIY for paper gift boxes. These boxes are easy to make and perfect gift wrapping options for small gifts.

DSCN8325 Here’s what you need:

  • 2 pieces of 12 by 12″ scrapbook paper (for a smaller box, use 8 by 8″ or 6 by 6″ paper)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape or stick

First off, decide which paper will be the top of the box and which will be the bottom. Take your bottom piece and trim it down to 11 1/2″ (1/2″ off two sides). Make sure it is as even as possible.

Now, fold your paper in half, starting on one side and then turning to do the other side as well. When opened, these your creases should look like this.

You are now finished with your initial folding. At this point, fold in two opposite corners. At the first crease on each side, turn up to form your box walls.

And there you have the top of your box! Follow the exact same steps for the bottom of your box.

These boxes are not only great for gifts; they also make super cute storage options! You could store tacks, tiny books, bobbins, and any number of things in them.

This coming weekend (November 8th) I have the wonderful opportunity to be a vendor at Behind the Picket Fence: Vintage, Craft, & Art Market in Sheridan, and I will be making these paper gift boxes as a gift wrapping option for shoppers! If you are in the Sheridan area, come and support your local businesses!

  1. I was just sitting here at my desk trying to figure out how to turn a $5 bill into some origami for the pizza delivery man, and I failed. But this on the other hand is something I could quite possibly accomplish . . maybe! They are so cute & perfect for little gifts under a Christmas tree!

  2. This is such an adorable idea! I am pinning this and definitely going to use this during the holidays! It would be great to do this for a baked goods box and gift wrapping!

  3. these look so great!! it actually reminds me of these tiny waste bins that my friends family used to make out of newspaper and thought it was really clever that they did that, but it totally works for packaging too.

      1. I learned to make these little boxes from Greeting cards on our very first Sower project! So fun!! Think I need to try it now with scrapbook paper as you do!! Happy selling next weekend!!:-)
